Treating Hypertrophic Scars
Hypertrophic scars are raised, thickened scars that remain confined within the original boundaries of the wound. They develop when the body produces excess collagen during healing, resulting in a scar that is elevated above the surrounding skin.
MCA Needling can be an effective treatment option for many mature hypertrophic scars by encouraging the scar tissue to remodel over time.
Treating Atrophic Scars
Atrophic scars appear as depressions or indentations within the skin due to a loss of collagen during healing. They are commonly associated with acne, chickenpox, trauma, or certain surgical procedures.
Rather than reducing excess tissue, treatment focuses on rebuilding the skin's structural support.
MCA Needling stimulates the production of new collagen beneath the scar, helping to gradually improve skin thickness and reduce the depth of depressed scars.
Understanding Keloid Scars
Keloid scars differ significantly from hypertrophic scars.
A keloid develops when the body's healing response becomes overactive, producing excessive collagen that continues to grow beyond the original wound. Unlike hypertrophic scars, keloids do not remain confined to the initial injury and may continue enlarging long after the skin has healed.
Some individuals have a genetic predisposition to developing keloid scars, making them more likely to occur after surgery, piercings, acne, burns, or even minor skin injuries.
